Flamingos at the Camargue in France

Yesterday we went to the Parc Ornithologquie in the Camargue National Park and saw real live flamingos, in the wild, in France! (and lots of other birds but that’s not the point).

I didn’t even know that there were flamingos in Europe, I thought that flamingos were a South American thing, but I was wrong. It turns out that there are six species of flamingos and they are found on every continent except Australasia and Antarctica.

So, I was excited when we found out that we could go see flamingos at the Camargue National park, not far from where we’re staying.

The first birds I saw in the park were Grey Herons and White Storks, in their nests up trees. They’re so big that they look ridiculous nesting up trees. Their nests were very messy.

Around the next corner, there were the flamingos that we had come to see. There were a lot of them standing in the marshes squawking, squabbling and behaving disgracefully. I had not expected them to be so noisy.

So, now I can say that I’ve seen flamingos!
