Te Araroa – Cape Reinga to Auckland

It’s been a year since we had to leave the Te Araroa trail. I’ve finally turned all of our video footage into a travel video.

Yeah, I guess you can tell that we aren’t exactly film experts. It’s also obvious that our phones do not have the best camera. But I’m pretty happy with the results!

This video covers us leaving Melbourne, sleeping in the toilet block at Cape Reinga, struggling through 90 Mile Beach, getting covered in mud in the Raetea Forest, sloshing through estuaries on the east coast, then getting completely overwhelmed by civilisation in Auckland.

We’re heading back to finish the Te Araroa trail in 2020, pandemic permitting.

Edit: borders were still very much closed, so I decided to move to Tasmania and go to University. To sate my thirst for adventure, I did the 480km Tasmanian Trail over a break instead!

I’m so pleased you are coming back to finish your trek.!
I still smile when I remember your intrepid family , eating peaches, with all your tents pitched in my back yard.
If you come through Auckland at any stage you are very welcome back.

When I think back to the kindness of all the people we met on the trail you stand out. You just saw us out hiking and invited seven complete strangers to stay the night! Thank you very much for the invitation back and hopefully we’ll see you next year!
